Why You'll Love Philly
Philadelphia is gritty and charming, historic and fresh — a city with revolutionary roots and a modern beat. It’s where I devoured my first real cheesesteak, ran up the Rocky Steps (yes, really), and found myself laughing like a kid again at the Please Touch Museum.
Local Highlights
Here’s what stood out the most while exploring Philly:
- Jim’s South Street Cheesesteaks – Long line, zero regrets. Order it “Whiz wit” (with cheese whiz and onions)
- Rocky Steps – Climb the stairs, pump your fists, and enjoy the skyline view. Bonus points if you play the theme song
- Reading Terminal Market – One-stop shop for local eats, Pennsylvania Dutch treats, and great people watching
- Old City – Walk through U.S. history past Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell
- Please Touch Museum – Surprisingly fun, even for grown-ups. Interactive, colorful, and great if you’re traveling with kids
Where to Stay
I stayed in Center City — close to everything and full of character. Old City is walkable and rich in charm, while Fishtown is where you'll find Philly’s creative soul and great brunch.
Nomad Tip: Philadelphia is a very walkable city, but biking is easy too (Indego Bike Share is everywhere). Try the “Philly Phlash” bus for cheap tourist stops.
